We’ve had a quiet weekend with a short trip to a farmer’s market and a walk to the field where we let the dogs chase balls and catch frisbees. Lots of laundry, ridding the garden of June bugs, and watching movies has happened. We’ve heard fireworks but have not seen them. And I am content.
I’ve needed this weekend to refresh and return. Busy only slightly describes the past couple weeks having Justin home. I’ve had to say no to a few things and have been told no to one thing I really wanted… Or at least thought I did.
It’s always interesting to me how it takes me becoming utterly exhausted and rundown to realize what’s really important to me.
I realized a few weeks ago that we have not been on a vacation since our honeymoon almost 4 years ago. Sure we’ve traveled to visit family, moved cross-country, and had our small adventures, but we haven’t had a lot of time for us. So yes, it’s time for us to make time for us 🙂
This is a big one on my list of important things. The next is more important, but has also been neglected nearly as much- my mornings with Jesus and His Word.
I hope I don’t lose you here.
My days are much better when I have quiet and can refocus on what really matters. I need these moments to calm myself and gain whatever wisdom I can gain. Without this wisdom and the Spirit’s presence in my life daily, my busyness is useless. Yes, I may accomplish a lot, but I will go home at the end of the day feeling empty.
This weekend has been the downtime I needed to realize my need for someone greater than myself.
Lastly, and ultimately, I need quiet. Quiet from the busy, crazy. Time to look for the hidden treasures that make me smile and remember God’s constant presence and love for mankind. I need this to remember to love.
I hope you have enjoyed the long weekend and even celebrated the independence. But mostly I hope you’ve had time to refresh. This has been that time for me and it’s made me be even more thankful to live where we do.
Happy Independence Day!!
***1pm update: I totally thought today was Monday the 4th 🙈😜. So Happy Day After Independence Day!
