Embracing Shadows

We are not made for the mountains, for sunrises, or for the other beautiful attractions in life- those are simply intended to be moments of inspiration. We are made for the valley and the ordinary things of life, and that is where we have to prove our stamina and strength.

In case you haven’t already noticed, life is full of highs and lows. I’m not sure if I can say there are more highs than lows. But I do know that the lows impact us a lot more and leave scars where the high moments seem to pass on like morning fog. The highs are remembered for a short while but when I’m faced with making a decision, those low moments come back to remind me of all the unfavorable possibilities. DSC_4739

I have been doing photography off and on for the last three years, technically more like two with all the time I took only snapping pictures for myself here and there. One thing that can really change a picture is the light. The lighting on a subject can affect several things, including how well the camera focuses on the subject.

Lately, I’ve fallen in love with the shadows even more so than good light. I marvel at the way light and shadows work together. They make me happy.

I’m learning to appreciate the light and shadows along with the highs and lows of life.

Whether you’re on the mountain right now or in a valley, I hope you take time to remember the mountains and have strength to push through the valleys.
